Middle market corporate banking associate relationship manager at HSBC in Ontario

Hometown: Halifax, NS

Year of StFX graduation and name of degree: Class of 2017, Advanced Major in Finance, Minor in Political Science.

Could you describe in a line or two, the impact/influence StFX and the Gerald Schwartz School of Business have had on you?

StFX provided me with many different classes to have a well-rounded BBA, and connected me to a supportive alumni network.

Why would you encourage other students to consider a Schwartz School education?

Small classes sizes not only mean you build an important relationship with your peers, but also with the experienced faculty. Schwartz also attracts many keynote speakers to the StFX campus. During my time, I had the privilege of hearing many speakers, including but not limited to, Bruce Linton (Canopy Growth), John Risley (Clearwater), and Brian Mulroney (18th Prime Minister of Canada).

Any notable accomplishments?

Upon graduation, I was selected as part of the HSBC Global Graduate 2017 Cohort. I joined over 2,000 new HSBC employees from all over the world for an introduction week in London, England. It was truly a unique experience to kick off my post-Schwartz career!

Favorite class or favorite academic experience?

In my fourth year, I had the privilege of working with a team of students and a local business. We focused on analyzing their current business activities to look for ways in which they could grow their market share. We then took these ideas and executed on our suggestions. Not only did we get the chance to put learnings in the classroom to work in the real world, but also got to give back to the local community that had given us so much.

Any advice you’d give current students?

Schwartz is a place that supports student growth inside and outside the classroom. Take advantage of building relationships with peers and faculty through a range of activities.
