WHY STUDY FINANCE AT StFX?
The finance program will appeal to students who are interested in understanding financial markets such as the stock and bond markets and who wish to learn more about how to make investment decisions at both the corporate and personal levels. It will prepare students to work in industry or to pursue higher studies in finance.
THE FINANCE PROGRAM
The program will expose students to current theories and applied finance skills and is a CFA affiliated university program. The curriculum will expose students to a wide variety of topics including investments, portfolio management, derivatives, corporate finance, personal finance, international finance, etc. Students will learn practical skills using our state-of-the-art Finance Lab in their class assignments. Students also have extracurricular opportunities to improve their finance skills such as managing a portfolio worth over a half million dollars (Xaverian Capital) or competing in finance case competitions (e.g., CFA Investment Research Challenge, CFA Ethics Challenge Case Competition).

Accounting and Finance Faculty
Our faculty are actively engaged in teaching and research. All accounting faculty have a professional accounting designation and substantial industry experience. All of the finance faculty have doctorates in finance. Their practical work experience, academic preparation and research programs help inform their teaching. Faculty research in a broad range of areas including corporate governance, capital markets, financial literacy, international tax policy, foreign exchange risk, and Indigenous business and offer opportunities for students to engage in that research though honours theses and summer research assistantships.
