Admission Requirements for Diploma Programs

Direct from High School Diploma Programs

The programs below can be pursued directly following high school.

Diploma in Data Acquisition and Analysis
  • New Direct must meet admission requirements for BScMajor
  • Applicants out of school for atleast 2 years will be considered case by case, but must have grade 12 Math (or equivalent) with average of 70% or higher
Diploma in Engineering

English 12 or English 12: African Heritage, Pre-Calculus 12 or Calculus 12, Chemistry 12, one of Biology 12 or Physics 12 (Physics recommended), and one other university preparatory course

Diploma in Engineering with Bachelor of Science (3 or 4 years)

English 12 or English 12: African Heritage, Pre-Calculus 12 or Calculus 12, Chemistry 12, one of Biology 12 or Physics 12 (Physics recommended), and one other university preparatory course

Post-Baccalaureate Diploma Programs

Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting Studies
  • Completion of a three-year or a four-year undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a minimum average of 70% in the final year of the undergraduate degree program.
  • For International Students: Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admission to graduate programs. Recognized English Language Proficiency Tests.
Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Actuarial Science & Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Actuarial Science
  • Completion of a four year-undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a cumulative average of 70% or higher in the undergraduate program.
  • Completion of the following courses, or equivalent:
    • 3 credits of BSAD 101 Introduction to Business
    • 3 credits of BSAD 102 Business Decision Making
    • 3 credits of Calculus I (One of MATH 106/121/126)
    • 3 credits of Calculus II (One of MATH 107/122/127)
    • 3 credits of Calculus III (One of MATH 222/267)
    • 3 credits of Statistics (One of STAT 231/101/224 – Statistics for Students in the Sciences)
  • For International Students: Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admission to graduate programs. Recognized English Language Proficiency Tests.
Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence
  • Completion of a four year-undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a cumulative average of 70% or higher in the applicant’s undergraduate program.
  • One Computer Science course in a programming language (or equivalent).
  • For International Students: Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admission to graduate programs. Recognized English Language Proficiency Tests.
  • Students with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science may be eligible to apply to either of our two Master’s programs in Computer Science. Click here for more details.
  • Students must have completed a university-level statistics course prior to beginning semester 3 of the program. Students who have not taken a statistics course as part of their undergraduate degree can complete Stat 231 - Statistics for Students in the Sciences while at StFX. In the case where this Statistics course is taken at StFX, the 3 credits received for the course becomes an additional requirement for the program. (i.e., The total number of completed credits at StFX will be 52, instead of 48).

The program is not intended for students who have significant undergraduate courses in Computer Science. Those students will likely be better positioned to complete a second degree (e.g. Major, Adv Major, or Honours in CS) or to enroll in the Master of Applied Computer Science at StFX. 

Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Business Studies
  • Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree except for Business from a recognized university. A cumulative average of 70% or higher in the applicant’s undergraduate program. Limited enrolment.
  • For International Students: Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admission to graduate programs. Recognized English Language Proficiency Tests.

Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Data Science
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university.
  • Grade 12 Pre-calculus or equivalent
  • For International Students: Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admission to graduate programs. Recognized English Language Proficiency Tests.
Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Digital Marketing
  • Completion of a four year-undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a cumulative average of 70% or higher in the applicant’s undergraduate program.
  • For International Students: Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admission to graduate programs. Recognized English Language Proficiency Tests.

Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Enterprise IT Management
  • Completion of a four year-undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a cumulative average of 70% or higher in the applicant’s undergraduate program.
  • For International Students: Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admission to graduate programs. Recognized English Language Proficiency Tests.

Other Diploma Programs

Diploma in Artificial Intelligence
  • At least two years of work experience plus grade 12 math or equivalent (eg MATH 001 from University).

OR

  • Successful completion of at least 18 post secondary credits plus Grade 12 math (or equivalent). These students will be assessed for advanced standing.

OR

  • College diploma in IT (eligible for up to 12 credits of advanced standing)
