Biography

Dr. Tom Mahaffey is a Professor in the Department of Marketing and Enterprise Systems. He has taught courses in marketing, strategic management, and ethics and he has been a Visiting Professor in BBA, MBA, and EMBA programs in Canada and Europe. His work was selected for the University’s Outstanding Teaching Award.

Dr. Mahaffey’s background is in the marketing of services – most recently in retail pharmacy including working conditions, expanded scope of practice, and the reduction of medication errors.

He is the co-author of two textbooks and several student resources. His peer-reviewed research has been presented nationally and internationally and selected for various awards. Research funding includes grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation, and the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy Innovation.

Professionally, Dr. Mahaffey is the president of Xavier Group, Inc., which provides consulting services to organizations across Canada and overseas. Services include executive education and the development of strategic marketing plans. He has also served on several Boards of Directors including terms as the President of the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists (NSCP) and Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC).
