Hands-on learning: apply your knowledge in practical situations.
To shape the most creative, thoughtful, dynamic, or resourceful graduates, at the Schwartz School we lean heavily on experiential learning. It is learning by doing, which is widely accepted to be the most successful method of learning.
With the case study method, students are expected to discuss and debate theories and ideas in class and in groups. In many classes, final grades consider tests, individual assignments and exams, as well as group assignments and “class participation”. We encourage students to participate in their own learning. In fact, we encourage and support our students to participate in case competitions within the Atlantic region and beyond – greater opportunities to gain experience and build confidence by putting oneself to the test!
Combine classroom learning with on-the-job experience. Co-op students gain a minimum of 12-16 months of paid, professional work experience in their field of study, and it counts as 3 credits towards a degree. All degree streams within the Schwartz School offer a Co-op option.
How far will your potential take you? Studying at one of our international partner universities will give you the opportunity to enrich your undergrad experience, and meet local and other international students who share an interest in global issues and perspectives. Choose to study for either a semester or a full year on exchange.
Service Learning blends hands-on opportunities and academic study with community service, for a well-rounded approach to the undergraduate experience. It’s a chance for you to apply your unique skills and abilities to solve a real-life challenge or opportunity for a worthy community or international organization.
A number of senior students have the opportunity to take on real-life consulting projects in which they work with local businesses, not-for-profits, or entrepreneurs. They’re typically tasked with identifying problems, analyzing the environment, and developing a strategy or set of recommendations that will address the needs of the client.
