Dr. Hatem Ghouma is an associate professor of finance who holds a PhD. in finance from HEC Montreal (University of Montreal), an MBA degree (Finance stream) from the University of Quebec in Montreal, a B.B.A. from Institut Supérieur de Gestion de Gabes (in Tunisia), and a Certified Islamic Banker degree from the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) in Bahrain. Hatem’s research interests include corporate governance, corporate finance, ethical finance, Islamic finance, corporate social responsibility, and financial institutions. His work has been published in many journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Journal of Banking & Finance, Research in International Business & Finance, and the Quarterly Review of Economics & Finance.
Before joining the Schwartz School of Business, Hatem had an extensive banking experience as he worked for the treasury department of the Islamic Development Bank Group, a Multilateral Development Bank with 57 member countries as shareholders. He has also advised many governments and central banks in Africa and the Middle East in matters relating to Islamic Finance, and provided many trainings in Finance to various financial institutions, central banks, and governments in the region.
